Hey guys. Yeah. Hey. So, um, sorry I haven't posted anything in a long while, hope ur not mad. I got my shit together now and you can expect weekly tech updates once again. Till then, hope these tunes make up for the weeks missed.
I am currently waiting for the final episode of Yacht Rock to hit the web. Episode 12 is gunna be about the Loggins' classic "Danger Zone". I'm sure you're all going through the same hell I am, thank god my good friend Prepmode has put together some edits of some smooth classics to help us get through this. I'm going to drop one on you today, and the other next week.
Sorry, I got caught up in sxsw and being super busy for the past 3 weeks.. Finally having a rest-filled not stressful Sunday. So for the super return of Yacht Rock Sunday I'm going to leave you all with 3 tracks instead of the usual one.
ALLLSOOOO for those of us who live in ATX who aren't getting their fill of gods gift to music Sunday at Barberella is Smooth Rock Music Night (Or is it Soft Rock Sundays?) where they have videos of sail boats and waterfalls and play smooth music!!! See you guys there, smooth drinks for my friends on me!!!
during sxsw i got a chance to see see LUDACHRIST and KILL THE NOISE and it was amazing. also i got to meet with the talent behind both of the projects and he agreed to do an interview. so here it is...
A.WARD: tell us a little bit about whats in store for ludachrist and kill the noise as far as projects and production goes?
JAKE: Well, Ludachrist's new album is finished. Unfortunately, all the information about it is top secret at this point. All I can say about it right now is that it's done, and it will be coming out soon!
JAKE: I just finished my debut EP as Kill The Noise! I'm calling it the "Roots EP". It has 4 tracks on it, all of which are slightly different. I worked my ass off on it, so definitely make sure you check it out haha. It comes out on a new label I've just started with Miami's DJ Craze! Look for it 4/6/10 on beatport and then 4/26/10 everywhere else that deals digital releases.
A.WARD: are then any secret projects you can give us hints on?
JAKE: Well, I'm always workin on something. Lately I've been working a lot at 140bpm...
A.WARD: so i found out during sxsw that you started a record label called SLOW ROAST RECORDS. can you tell me a little bit more about it?
JAKE: It's a label I started with DJ Craze. We just launched it the last couple months and the first release is coming up soon as I've already mentioned. It is distributed by A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs mightly Fool's Gold Imprint. Keep an eye out on our twitter.com/slowroastrecs and our website www.slowroastrecs.com for more info on that!
A.WARD: whats styles of music influence and are important to the music you produce and play?
JAKE: Music in general! I listen to all styles. I have ADD when it comes to what I like. One minute it's the latest house mix, next minute its hip-hop, after that I'm listening to old Metallica records... I get ideas from across the board.
A.WARD: what kind of hardware / software are you using when you play out and for production?
JAKE: I DJ using Traktor these days. I got picked up by Native Instruments to use their product, and I'm lovin' it! I have plans of developing a live set, the details on that are in the works!
JAKE: For production, I use Reason 4 and Ableton 8 mostly. However I have a long list of 3rd party plugins and occasionally other sequencers I crack open too!
A.WARD: any tips for anyone out there who may be wanting to start producing?
JAKE: Start listening critically to all music and ask yourself a lot of questions about how and why things sound the way they do. Compare what you are making to the things you are influenced by and try to figure out what the differences are and why. Ask as many questions as you can, and send your music to people you think have a unique perspective. Get lots of feedback!
A.WARD: where can people go do find out more about your music and what youre doing?
A.WARD: big THANKS for taking the time to talk with with me during sxsw and for doing this interview! hopefully we sill see you back in austin texas real soon!
the more i hear this track the more i like it. this song is very melodic with epic break downs and build ups involving some really sweet synth action. This is your www.tffkrwd.com & www.hypersonicradio.com HYPE track of the week. LISTEN to it here now, and check it out in this weeks broadcast of HYPERSONIC RADIO airing 04/03/2010 from 10pm-12am on 101X/101.5fm & www.hypersonicradio.com.
